All-on-6 dental implants

All-on-6 Dental Implants in Kondapur, Hyderabad

All-on-6 dental implants in Kondapur restore a whole arch of teeth with a fixed bridge held by six implants. Compared with four, six spread the chewing load over more points and can suit jaws with good bone, though more implants do not always mean a better result.

Elite Dental Clinic is a dental clinic in Kondapur, Hyderabad. This page is medically reviewed by Dr. Revathi Indukuri, a dentist at the clinic. It explains how six implants for a full arch in Kondapur work, how they differ from four, the risks and what the research says about the number of implants.

Quick answer

All-on-6 is a full-arch treatment in which six implants carry a fixed bridge of teeth. At Elite Dental Clinic in Hyderabad, the dentist plans it from a 3D scan and tells you whether six, four or another number of implants suits your bone and bite.

01 Overview

What is All-on-6 and how is it different from All-on-4?

All-on-6 uses six implants, placed along the jaw, to support one fixed bridge of teeth. It follows the same idea as All-on-4 dental implants, but with two more implants. The extra implants spread the chewing load across more points and give the bridge more support along its length. The wider choice of full-arch plans is on the full mouth dental implants page.

Six implants usually need enough bone along the jaw, since each one needs room. Where the bone is thin, a graft may be needed, or four implants with tilted back ones may be the better plan, see the All-on-4 page.

It is natural to think that more implants must last longer. The research does not clearly show this. A systematic review and meta-analysis of complete-arch implant-supported prostheses followed for at least five years, covering 19 studies, found no relationship between the number of implants used and survival.2

So the reasons to choose six are practical: a more even spread of load, a bridge that is less dependent on any single implant, and better suitability where the bite is strong. The reason not to is the need for more bone, more surgery and more implants to clean around.

In short, All-on-6 puts six implants under a fixed bridge, and the research does not show that six always outlasts four.

The teeth are fixed as an implant-supported bridge, and a zirconia bridge is often chosen for its strength and its tooth-like colour. Six implants help with load distribution across the jaw, and the scan checks the bone density before the plan is made.

02 Candidacy

Am I suitable for All-on-6 in Kondapur?

Suitability depends on your bone, gums, bite and health. A scan decides. The two lists below describe the general pattern.

Who it often suits

  • Most or all teeth in a jaw missing or beyond saving
  • Enough bone along the jaw to place six implants, or bone that can be built up
  • A strong bite or a wish for extra support under the bridge
  • Good general health and the ability to clean under a fixed bridge

Needs caution or a different plan

  • Thin bone, where six implants may not fit and four tilted ones may suit better
  • Active gum disease or infection, which is treated first1
  • Smoking or poorly controlled diabetes, which raise the risk of failure
  • Heavy grinding that is not controlled, which can damage any bridge

Six implants suit jaws with enough bone and a strong bite, and thin bone may point to four.

03 Options

Which All-on-6 plan will I get in Kondapur?

Within a six-implant plan there are choices about teeth and timing. The dentist explains them from your scan.

Six implants with a fixed zirconia or acrylic bridge

The bridge is either acrylic over a metal frame or made of zirconia, a strong ceramic. Acrylic is lighter and easier to repair, and zirconia resists wear and staining. The dentist advises on the choice for your bite.

Final bridge

Immediate teeth on the six implants

In suitable cases, a temporary fixed bridge is fitted soon after the implants are placed. With more implants, there is more to hold it, but the bone still needs undisturbed time to bond.

Within days

Bone grafting to make room for six implants

If the bone is too thin along the jaw, a graft can be added before or during the surgery. This adds time and steps, and the dentist may suggest four implants instead.

If needed

If four implants will do, see All-on-4 dental implants. For a removable option, see dentures.

Six implants spread the load and need more bone, and four need less bone with tilted back implants.

04 Procedure

How is All-on-6 done, step by step?

The treatment takes several weeks to months. The steps below are what usually happens.

Planning on a scan, surgery, healing, and a final bridge.

  1. Examination and 3D scan to plan six implants

The dentist examines your mouth and takes a 3D scan to measure the bone, nerves and sinuses. The positions of the six implants are planned and shown to you, along with the plan for the teeth.

  2. Treating gum disease and removing remaining teeth

Gum disease and infection are treated, see periodontal treatment. Teeth that cannot be saved are removed, see tooth extraction, sometimes at the same visit as the implants.

  3. Placing six implants in the jawbone

With the jaw numbed, and sedation if you want it, six implants are set along the bone. A graft goes in where bone is short, and the gum is stitched over the implants.

  4. Fitting a temporary bridge or denture while the implants bond

A temporary fixed bridge may be fitted, or a soft denture worn, while the bone grows around the implants over a few months.

  5. Taking impressions or scans for the final bridge

When the implants are firm, impressions or scans are taken and the final bridge is made in a laboratory. A trial bridge may be tried in for the bite.

  6. Fitting the final bridge on the six implants

The final bridge is fixed to the implants and the bite is adjusted. You are shown how to clean under it, and a night guard may be advised.

05 Cost

What decides the cost of All-on-6 in Kondapur, Hyderabad?

Treatment is planned for one person, not sold as a product, so the cost follows your evaluation.

Every mouth needs a different plan, so Elite Dental Clinic does not quote a cost before an evaluation. You receive a written plan that lists each stage before any treatment starts.

What the evaluation looks at

  • Whether one or both jaws are treated
  • The implant system and the material of the final bridge
  • Whether teeth need removing or bone needs grafting
  • Whether temporary teeth are fitted on the day

What you decide with the dentist

  • The scans, sedation and number of visits
  • Treatment of gum disease or decay first
  • A night guard and maintenance visits afterwards

Your general health matters too, including diabetes, smoking and any medicines that affect bone healing.

The cost follows the plan, and the plan follows the evaluation.

06 Aftercare

What is it like to recover from All-on-6?

Recovery takes a few days for the surgery and a few months for the bone. The steps below help it go well.

After surgery

The cheeks may swell and the gums feel sore for the first few days, and a little blood in the saliva is normal on day one. Hold cold packs to the face, sleep with an extra pillow and take only what the dentist has prescribed.

Eating while the implants bond

Stick to cool, soft meals such as dal, curd rice and soups, and skip anything hard or chewy even if the temporary teeth feel firm. Chewing hard too early can upset the bone as it grows onto the implants.

Cleaning under the bridge

You will be shown how to clean beneath the bridge with small interdental brushes, superfloss and a water flosser. With six implants there are six sites to keep clean, and plaque left behind is the main reason gums and bone break down around implants.

Long-term care

Stay off tobacco, keep your maintenance appointments and wear a night guard if you grind. Over the years the bridge may need repair or replacement.

When to call us

Call the clinic the same day if bleeding does not stop with pressure, swelling worsens after the third day, you have a fever or pus, or a tooth on the bridge breaks or loosens. If swelling spreads to the face or neck, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Soft food while healing and thorough cleaning around six implants protect the result.

07 Limits

When is All-on-6 the wrong choice?

All-on-6 is usually delayed or replaced by another plan in these situations:

  • Not enough bone along the jaw for six implants, where a graft is not wanted or possible.
  • Active gum disease or infection that has not been controlled.1
  • Smoking or poorly controlled diabetes that the patient cannot change.
  • Radiotherapy to the jaw or medicines that affect bone, which need a doctor's opinion first.
  • A patient who cannot clean around six implants or attend maintenance visits.
  • A case where four implants would do and the extra surgery is not needed.

For the four-implant plan, see All-on-4 dental implants. For one missing tooth, see single tooth implant. For worn teeth rather than missing ones, see full mouth rehabilitation.

Risks and complications

The risks include infection, pain and swelling, nerve or sinus problems, implants that fail to bond, loosening or breaking of the bridge, and inflammation of the gum and bone around the implants that can cause bone loss.

More implants mean more surgery and more places for infection to start around the implant, though the review found no relationship between the number of implants and survival.2

No one can promise that a full-arch bridge will last for any number of years.

More implants mean more surgery and more to clean, and not necessarily a longer-lasting result.

08 Your visit

What happens at your first All-on-6 appointment in Kondapur?

The first visit is a conversation and an examination. The dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite, reads your X-rays or scan, and explains whether six implants fit your case, how that compares with four and with dentures, and what you would need to do. You receive a written plan that lists each stage before any treatment starts.

Carry earlier X-rays, your current dentures and a list of medicines. Mention diabetes, smoking, heart problems, jaw treatment and any clenching or grinding.

The team speaks English, Telugu and Hindi. You can bring a family member. You are under no obligation to go ahead with treatment.

The first visit ends with a scan-based plan, not a commitment.

People often ask whether six implants are better than four. The honest answer is that it depends on your bone and your bite, because the research does not show that more implants always means a longer-lasting result. Six can give a more evenly supported bridge for some patients, and I show you on the scan why I would suggest one or the other.

Dr. Revathi Indukuri

Dr. Revathi Indukuri reviewed this page as a dentist at the clinic. According to the clinic's team board, an implantologist and prosthodontist, a periodontist and oral and maxillofacial surgeons work here, and a six-implant plan can draw on each of them.

Surgery and teeth planned together

With an implantologist, a periodontist, a prosthodontist and oral surgeons on the board, the implant surgery and the bridge can be designed together.

Honest about six versus four

Your scan is put on the screen and you are told plainly whether six implants are justified or four would be enough.

A written plan before treatment

A written plan is handed to you before treatment begins, so each stage is clear.

Gum health first

Any gum disease is brought under control before implants go in, since it raises the chance of failure.

13 Questions

All-on-6 questions from patients in Kondapur

What is All-on-6?

It is a way of restoring a full arch of teeth on six implants. The implants are placed along the jaw and a fixed bridge of teeth is attached to them. It is used when most or all teeth in a jaw are missing or cannot be saved.

Is All-on-6 better than All-on-4?

Not necessarily. A systematic review of complete-arch prostheses found no relationship between the number of implants and survival. Six implants spread the load over more points and may suit jaws with good bone and a strong bite. Four may suit thin bone. The dentist advises.

Do I need a bone graft for six implants?

Possibly. Six implants need enough bone along the jaw. If the bone is thin, a graft can sometimes build it up, which adds time and steps, or four implants with tilted back ones may be a better plan. A scan shows what is needed.

How long does All-on-6 take?

It is done in stages over several months. The implants are placed, the bone heals around them, and the final bridge is fitted. In some cases a temporary fixed bridge is fitted soon after surgery. The team gives an estimate after the scan.

Is the surgery painful?

It is done under local anaesthetic, with sedation if advised, so you should not feel pain during it. Swelling, soreness and bruising are common for several days and are managed with the medicines the dentist prescribes.

How long does an All-on-6 bridge last?

No one can promise a number of years. Cleaning, the bite, grinding, smoking and the materials all affect the result, and the bridge may need repair or replacement over time. The implants and bridge are checked at maintenance visits.

How is the cost of All-on-6 decided?

The cost is given after the evaluation and scan. Whether one or both jaws are treated, the implant system, the material of the bridge, any grafts or tooth removal and the number of visits all change the plan. You receive a written plan before treatment starts.

Can I have All-on-6 on one jaw only?

Yes. Many people have implants on only the upper or the lower jaw, depending on which teeth are missing or failing. The dentist plans each jaw separately and explains how they work together.

14 Second opinion

Wondering whether six implants or four would suit you?

Bring your X-rays, any scans and the advice you have had so far. The dentist will go through them with you and explain why four or six implants would suit your bone and bite. Call or send a WhatsApp message to book. The evaluation is the first step, and you are under no obligation to go ahead with treatment.
