The doctor behind the care
Dr. Revathi Indukuri is the endodontist at Elite Dental Clinic. Her speciality is the inside of the tooth: finding the cause of tooth pain and saving teeth where that is possible. She is also the medical reviewer of the clinic's treatment guides.
A toothache is not always the tooth that looks worst on the X-ray, so I take time to find the cause first and explain it in plain words. Then we go step by step, at your pace, and you know what to expect before each stage.

Visiting from afar

Ask how many visits your treatment needs, how long each takes and which reviews a dentist at home could do, and ask for your records and a written summary before you leave.
Often about every six months for a check-up and cleaning, though your dentist may advise more or less often depending on your teeth and gums. Regular check-ups find cavities and gum disease before they hurt.
A cleaning is usually comfortable. Gums that are inflamed can be tender, and teeth can feel sensitive for a day or two. Tell the dentist if anything bothers you, and numbing gel can be used. See the teeth cleaning guide.
Rinse with warm salt water, take paracetamol or ibuprofen as directed on the packet, and eat soft food. See a dentist if the pain lasts more than two days or comes with swelling or fever. See the tooth pain guide.
